n-Butanol, also known as 1-butanol or butan-1-ol, is a so-called alkanol. n-Butanol is a colorless liquid with a typical odor, which is usually classified as tart and wine-like or banana-like. Unlike other solvents, it is freely miscible with the many products in this category. This also applies to water-n-butanol mixtures up to 20% by weight. n-butanol is generally used as a solvent in the manufacture of paints and varnishes.
