Application

Synthetic tartaric acid DL is typically synthesized using hydrogen peroxide. For the most part, synthetic tartaric acid is used in technical applications, exemplified by its use as a complexing agent, acidity regulator or retarder in cement processing. In addition, tartaric acid is used in the manufacture or dyeing of textiles.

Precautions

Wash hands and other exposed body parts with mild soap and water before eating, drinking or smoking and when leaving the workplace. Provide process area with good ventilation to avoid formation of vapors Do not inhale dust, fumes, gas, mist, vapor or aerosol. Avoid contact during pregnancy and lactation.

Tartaric acid DL, synthetic does not mean, by the way, that the tartaric acid is not of natural origin. Although it may be maleic anhydrite, a coal tar derivative. Nowadays, however, synthetic tartaric acid is becoming less common due to its limited range of uses and is gradually being replaced in formulations.
