Application

Vegetable Palmitic acid from chemiekontor.de is produced by saponification of palm oil. During the manufacturing process, the stearic acid is processed in appropriate separation processes, such as hydrolysis and subsequent distillation, to produce a usable product. This is the saturated C-16 cut, which is subsequently used in many cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications (skin and body care, e.g. shaving foam). Palmitic acid is also used as a thickening agent in oil-based systems.

Precautions

Wash hands and other exposed body parts with mild soap and water before eating, drinking or smoking and when leaving the workplace.  Provide process area with good ventilation to prevent formation of vapors.

Palmitic acid is an acid, albeit a very weak one. It is the most abundant fatty acid in the world. It is found, as the name may incorrectly suggest, not only in palm oil plants, but in virtually every vegetable oil and most animal fats. Palmitic acid can even be found in many microorganisms.

Store only in the original container in a cool, well-ventilated area. Keep container closed when not in use. Avoid direct sunlight.
