Application

Due to its natural origin, L(+)-tartaric acid is generally used in the food sector. For example, it is used as a complexing agent or acidity regulator. In addition, tartaric acid is used in the technical field for the production or dyeing of textiles or added as a retarder in cement processing.

Precautionary measures

Wash hands and other exposed areas of the body with mild soap and water before eating, drinking or smoking and when leaving the workplace. Provide process area with good ventilation to prevent formation of vapors. Do not breathe dust, fume, gas, mist, vapor or aerosol. Avoid contact during pregnancy and while nursing.

L(+)-tartaric acid is obtained industrially mainly from grapes and other ingredients. In the European Union it is approved as food additive E 334. As a relatively strong organic acid, it is usually available for commercial purposes as a colorless, crystalline grit. However, solutions with different concentrations are also possible.
